What is ServiceMagic?
ServiceMagic is a lead company for contactors, and a resource for homeowners. If you in need of a contractor, and don't want to play eni-meni-mini-mo with your most valuable posession, ServiceMagic may be your answer. You visit the site, give a brief description of your project, and ServiceMagic puts you in touch with up to three PRESCREENED contractors. It is then my job, as one of those contractors, to estimate the job and convince YOU that I am the man for the job. There is no fee to you as the homeowner. We pay a fee for each individual lead.
What do you mean PRESCREENED?
Well, after investingating several lead companies, I personally felt ServiceMagic was the most thorough. Their screening process is a TEN POINT one which includes checking up to ten (10) references, background investigation (criminal AND civil...no felonies and no trade related litigation, binding arbitration, etc...), insurance and applicable liscencing required for applicable state, and so on. All of this is to build your confidence and give you a piece of mind that your time won't be wasted in that everyone you talk to is probably capable of completing the job. It's MY job to convince you that I will do the best job for the best price.
I ALREADY HAVE A CONTRACTOR...WHAT'S THE POINT?
I'll be honest. Sometimes having a pre-existing relationship with a contractor isn't always the best thing for you. I've seen it numerous times. A contractor will get comfortable, and bid a job based on what he thinks you can afford instead of what the job may really cost (labor wise). ServiceMagic is a good resource to keep them on their toes. Competition is fierce, and in this economy especially, you should explore ALL of your options and use all of your resources.
